Booking a flight from Barcelona-El Prat: your airline's terminal, the trip to it and the extras the fare leaves out

Before you pay for a flight from Barcelona-El Prat, check two things the fare leaves out: whether your airline uses T1 or T2, and what it costs you to get there. Tickets are sold by airlines and booking providers, not by this guide.

Fare history for Barcelona-El Prat: not yet

The fare block below counts the routes that have dated fare observations and the ones that have none yet. No fare history is published for Barcelona-El Prat so far, so it shows that there is not yet enough history for a trend or typical fare. Any figure that shows up later will be a price seen on an earlier date, not something you can book.

Quick answer

Compare whole trips rather than fares: add bags, seats and the journey to the right terminal. Vueling, Iberia and most long-haul airlines use T1, Ryanair and easyJet T2. The Metro to either terminal costs €5.70 with the Airport Ticket, the Aerobús goes to T1 as the A1 and to T2 as the A2, and the Rodalies train reaches T2 only. Confirm the final price with the airline or the seller.

Your airline decides your terminal

Vueling, Iberia, LEVEL and most long-haul airlines fly from T1, about 4 km by road from Ryanair's and Transavia's T2B and easyJet's T2C. The terminal decides which Aerobús you take (A1 or A2), whether the Rodalies train reaches you (T2 only), which priority-security product you buy and which lounge you can use. Each recorded carrier has a profile in the airline directory.

If you fly on to a cruise, the taxi between the airport and the Moll Adossat cruise terminals is a fixed €46. If you drive, the Long-stay and Low-cost car parks take only drivers who have booked and fly from T1, and Aena shows the price when you book; the General car parks charge by the minute. More in transport and parking.

Extras that turn a cheap fare into a dear one

Cabin bag size, weight and number are each airline's own rule, and so is the checked allowance. A bike, golf bag or anything longer than 1.2 m or heavier than 50 kg is special baggage, arranged and paid for with the airline. At the airport, the T1 Fast Track costs €16.55 per person and the T2 Fast Lane €12.35; a lounge visit costs €48.00 per adult, or €51.26 at Joan Miró for flights leaving Schengen, with entry at most 3 hours before departure. Meet & Assist has no list price: Aena shows the price when you book.

Connecting in Barcelona: one ticket or two

On one ticket for the whole trip, bags normally travel through to the final airport. Booked on separate tickets, they have to be picked up and checked in a second time. A change between T1 and T2 is always landside: the shuttle, security again in the second terminal and, depending on the flights, passport control and re-checking bags, so confirm it with your airline and allow at least an extra hour. Within one terminal, passengers arriving from outside Schengen may pass the connections checkpoint, on Floor 2 in T1 and Floor 1 in T2. Minimum connecting times are the airline's.

Documents for flights leaving Schengen

Inside the Schengen area the airline checks your ID. Anything else means passport control after security, and non-EU visitors on short stays go through the Entry/Exit System. ETIAS is not in operation yet, so ignore sites selling one, and the UK ETA is a British rule for entering the UK.

Where to look for routes

Destinations are found on the More routes page, where every route recorded from Barcelona-El Prat can be searched and filtered; the Busiest routes page ranks them by the number of flights. The payable total is the one on the airline's or seller's own page.

Who handles a ticket problem

Name corrections, changes, cancellations, refunds and payment problems are for the airline or the seller shown on your booking; check-in and disruption on the day are for the operating airline. No one here can look up or alter a booking.

Travel tips

  • Cost the airport journey at your actual flight time: on most nights only the Aerobús, night buses and taxis run after midnight.
  • Put identical bags and seats on every option before comparing totals.
  • Read the destination code on the last booking screen.
  • Leave a wide margin if a self-transfer means changing between T1 and T2.
  • Screenshot the fare rules and the full itinerary on the last screen, before paying.
