Barcelona-El Prat weekly traffic comparison (BCN)

The weekly comparison tells you whether El Prat was busier or more punctual last week than the week before. It sets the latest two consecutive Monday-to-Sunday weeks against each other: how many flights were recorded, how many arrived, left or were cancelled, what share ran early, on time or late, and how many airlines and routes were active. A week joins only after its Sunday has ended.

The weekly comparison does not replace current boards or direct confirmation with the airline.

Two whole weeks first

Nothing is compared until two weeks in a row have every day fully recorded. Until then the page gives the number of complete days already on record and, when it can already be known, the first date a comparison can be published.

The nine measures, week against week

Both weeks are built the same way: Barcelona local days, and only days with arrivals and departures fully covered. The totals come first, flights, arrivals, departures and cancellations, then the number of active airlines and routes. The early, on-time and delayed shares follow once each week has at least 100 measured flights, and the three always add up to 100%. A flight whose airline has not been identified yet still counts in the totals. Both terminals are added together, so an airline moving between T1 and T2 does not change the totals.

Reading a change from one week to the next

The difference between two weeks comes from what the airlines scheduled and what actually flew. A single unusual day, a strike or a storm, can tip a whole week; when one stands out, open it in the flight archive. Seasonal questions, summer against winter, need the historical statistics once enough dates are recorded.

Travel tips

  • When one weekday drags a week down, open that date in the archive and look for cancellations.
  • When the airline count changes, look in the archive for the airline that flew in one week and not in the other.
  • Read arrivals and departures as well as the total: when only one of them moves, look for the day in the archive.

Frequently asked questions

Which weeks are compared?
The latest two consecutive complete weeks, each from Monday to Sunday in Barcelona local time.
Why is this week not shown?
It is incomplete until its Sunday ends.
Why is there no comparison yet?
Because the record does not yet hold two back-to-back weeks with every day complete; when it can be known, the page gives the earliest date one can appear.
When is a day complete?
When both its arrivals and its departures are fully covered for that local day.
Are cancellations compared?
Yes. They are one of the nine measures, shown separately from the punctuality shares.
What counts as delayed here?
Operating more than 5 minutes after the scheduled time.
Why is a punctuality share missing?
One of the weeks has fewer than 100 measured flights, too few for a percentage.
Can I compare T1 and T2 week by week?
No. Both terminals are counted together.
Does a busier week mean longer queues?
Not necessarily. Flights are counted, not passengers or queues.
Is this Aena data?
No. It is built from the flights recorded on this site.
