Quick answer

The archive holds the BCN flights recorded on this site, filed by local date: open a day as arrivals or departures, or start from its month. Only days labelled complete count in comparisons; partial, in-progress and unknown days stay visible but are left out. Each aircraft counts once even when sold under several codes, and a finished flight is labelled Delayed only beyond 15 minutes.

Opening a past day

Pick a date in the date box, choose arrivals or departures as the flight type and open the selected flights. To browse instead, go down to the month cards: each one says whether the month is closed, still in progress or only partly covered, and counts its complete and partial dates, its arrivals, its departures and the total. Today's flights stay on the live arrivals and departures boards, and yesterday has a page of its own.

Complete, partial, in progress, unknown

The coverage block at the top gives the available period, from the first to the last date, and when the archive was last updated; below it sit the counts of past dates, verified complete dates, partial dates and recorded flights. A chart then shows the last 30 archive dates, one bar each, labelled by completeness; a day missing from the archive gets no bar.

LabelMeaningUsed in comparisons
CompleteFlight data covers the whole local dayYes
PartialHours of coverage are missing; the day stays visibleNo
In progressThe day has not finishedNo
UnknownCompleteness cannot be verifiedNo

How a closed day labels each flight

Live labels such as "In the air" disappear once a day is over. Flights that finished show "Landed" or "Departed"; the label becomes "Delayed" when the finish came more than 15 minutes behind schedule or the data provider flagged a delay, and "Cancelled" when the flight never went. If nobody captured how a flight ended, the row reads "Final status unavailable" and adds the last status that was recorded. The filters use the same groups: recorded, delayed, cancelled and final status unavailable.

The daily boards use a lower bar of 5 minutes, so a landing 10 minutes behind schedule shows "10 min late" on yesterday's board but "Landed" in the archive. The archive can also differ from the airline's own operational record.

What a past day is good for

Use it to check a trip you took: when the aircraft really left or landed, and how late. Before booking, a few past weekdays show which airlines flew a route, though past flights are not a timetable. The terminal and gate show only if the recorded data included them, and for a future flight you should confirm the terminal with the airline. For trends across complete days, see daily traffic, delays and on-time performance.

Travel tips

  • Open the day of your trip and search it by the flight number on your booking.
  • Check that both dates are complete before comparing two days.
  • Look for yesterday's flights on the yesterday pages, not here.
  • If the number does not come up, try the airline or the destination: it may be filed under the operating carrier.
  • Ask the airline for its own record before you make a claim.

Frequently asked questions

What is the oldest day in the BCN archive?
The first date in the coverage block; there is nothing earlier.
Which buttons open a particular date?
The date box and the flight type, then "Open selected flights"; or the card for that month.
Are all dates complete?
No. The label on each date says complete, partial, in progress or unknown.
Why do partial days not count in comparisons?
Hours of coverage are missing, so their totals would fall short of the real day.
A flight says "Final status unavailable". Why?
Its final state was never captured; the last recorded status is shown beside it.
How late must a flight be for the archive to say "Delayed"?
More than 15 minutes, unless the provider had already flagged it as delayed.
Why does yesterday's board show a delay the archive does not?
The boards count anything over 5 minutes; the archive, anything over 15.
Are codeshare flights counted twice?
No. Each flight counts once, however many codes it has.
Does the archive show T1 or T2?
Only where the recorded data included the terminal.
Will the archive back up a delay claim?
No. Ask the operating airline about the delay.
