Barcelona-El Prat Airport Flight Data Methodology

Every flight is counted once, times are in Barcelona local time and days with missing data are labelled. Check anything urgent with your airline.
Quick answer

We check flight numbers, airports, airlines and times before adding flights to boards and totals. This independent guide does not replace airline updates or airport displays.

Practical information

Airport scope

Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN)

Display time zone

Barcelona local time (CET, or CEST in summer)

On-time band

From 3 minutes early to 5 minutes late

Late threshold

More than 5 minutes after schedule

These rules govern the arrivals and departures boards, the daily archive, airline and destination activity, the busiest routes, punctuality figures and every other statistic built from the flight records kept for Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN), whether the flight uses T1 or T2.

Source and airport scope

Flight records for BCN come from AirLabs, a third-party provider. A record reaches the Barcelona-El Prat boards and statistics only when it identifies the flight as an arrival at BCN or a departure from it.

Updates and local time

Flight records are imported regularly. Pages clearly identify current, dated, partial, old and unavailable information. Passenger times are shown in Barcelona local time.

An empty result can mean that no usable records arrived for the requested period. It does not prove that no flight operated.

How records are checked

Records are checked for flight number, airport, airline, direction, scheduled date and time, observed time and status. Invalid, inconsistent or incorrectly assigned records are left out of public calculations.

Airline and airport names appear only when the available flight information identifies them clearly. An unclear name is left unassigned.

Duplicates and codeshare flights

Repeated updates and identical records are removed. When several flight numbers refer to the same flight, they are shown together and the flight is counted once.

If we cannot tell whether two numbers refer to the same flight, we do not present an uncertain total as definitive.

How punctuality is measured

A flight needs usable scheduled and actual times to enter the punctuality calculation. It is early when more than 3 minutes ahead of schedule, on time from 3 minutes early to 5 minutes late, and late when more than 5 minutes behind schedule.

Flights without a usable actual time are left out of that calculation. Cancellations are shown separately and are not converted into delay minutes.

When statistics are published

Counts, percentages, airline activity, route rankings and delay summaries use only flight records that pass the relevant checks. Each page states the period covered and, where useful, the number of flights included.

Limited or incomplete records are clearly labelled and may be left out of comparisons. A recorded route confirms past activity only for the dates shown; it does not guarantee future frequency, year-round service or ticket availability.

Dates included in the archive

A date is marked complete only when enough usable flight records cover the whole day. The current day remains incomplete until it ends, and the archive may start later than its maximum retention period would allow.

Missing and partial days are labelled so you can tell which periods are suitable for comparison.

Corrections and recalculation

If a flight record, airline match or calculation rule is corrected, affected historical totals and statistics may change. Correcting a known error takes priority over preserving an older figure.

To report a data issue, include the URL, flight date, direction, flight number and disputed value. Do not send booking credentials or payment data.

Important limitations

Automated flight information can be delayed, incomplete, duplicated or temporarily unavailable. Airlines, routes, gates and schedules can change. Checks reduce unsupported claims but cannot guarantee perfect real-time accuracy.

Always confirm boarding, check-in, gate, terminal, baggage and disruption instructions with the operating airline and the official airport channel.

Frequently asked questions

Does this flight data come from Aena or the airport?
No. It is published by an independent passenger guide; the official flight information for T1 and T2 comes from Aena and your airline.
Why can a flight page show partial or unavailable data?
Part of the period may be missing, or the latest update may be delayed. Check the date shown and confirm an important flight directly with the airline.
How is an on-time flight defined?
For these statistics, a flight is on time from 3 minutes early to 5 minutes late, using its scheduled and actual times.
Are codeshare flight numbers counted separately?
No. When several numbers identify the same flight, it appears once in totals; the other numbers are shown alongside it.
Does a recorded route prove a future service?
No. It shows only that a flight was recorded on the dates stated. Check a current schedule before booking.
Can historical figures change?
Yes. If a flight record is corrected or a duplicate is identified, the totals may change.
