Taxis at Barcelona-El Prat Airport: the ranks at T1 and T2, the AMB meter, the €21 minimum and ride-hailing
A taxi from Barcelona-El Prat to Plaça Catalunya takes about 20 to 30 minutes and comes to roughly €30 to €39, an estimate from the AMB tariff, not a fixed fare. The meter adds a €4.60 airport supplement, any trip that starts at the airport costs at least €21.00 with everything included, and the only fixed price is €46 to the Moll Adossat cruise terminals. Both T1 and T2 have an official rank outside arrivals; for cheaper ways into the city, compare the Aerobús, the Metro and the train.

Take an official black-and-yellow taxi from the signed rank outside arrivals at T1 or T2. The meter charges €1.35 per km on weekdays from 08:00 to 20:00 and €1.66 per km at night, on Saturdays and on public holidays, plus a €4.60 airport supplement, and no trip from the airport costs less than €21.00. Plaça Catalunya is about 20 to 30 minutes and roughly €30 to €39, an estimate rather than a fixed fare, while the Moll Adossat cruise terminals are a fixed €46. Uber, Cabify and Bolt must be booked in the app and pick up in separate VTC areas.

Where the taxi ranks are at T1 and T2
Both terminals of Barcelona-El Prat have an official taxi rank just outside arrivals, and you do not need a booking: you join the queue and take the next cab. At T1 you come out of baggage reclaim into the arrivals hall on Floor 1. At T2 arrivals are on Floor 0, in whichever of the three sections, T2A, T2B or T2C, your flight is handled. In both cases the "Taxi" signs take you out to the rank.
From the arrivals hall to the cab
- After baggage reclaim and customs, follow the "Taxi" signs out of the arrivals hall.
- Join the official queue and take the taxi at the front of it.
- Give the address, then check that the meter starts and that the roof sign shows the tariff in force.
How to recognise an official Barcelona taxi
Metropolitan Barcelona taxis are black with yellow side panels. Each shows its licence number, carries a roof sign with the tariff it is running on and charges by the taximeter. The fares are set by the AMB, the Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona, and the sector is regulated by its Institut Metropolità del Taxi (IMET). Drivers who walk up to you inside the terminal offering a ride are outside that system: say no and carry on to the rank.
How much a Barcelona airport taxi costs: the 2026 AMB tariff
Every metered fare has three parts: the flag-fall, a charge per kilometre (or per hour of waiting while the cab is stopped or held up) and any supplements. The AMB revises the figures each year. These apply in 2026:
| Part of the fare | Amount | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Flag-fall | €2.80 | At the start of every metered trip |
| Tariff T-1 | €1.35 per km | Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 20:00 |
| Tariff T-2 | €1.66 per km | Monday to Friday, 20:00 to 08:00, and all day on Saturdays and public holidays |
| Waiting time | €27.75 per hour | In place of the distance charge while the taxi waits |
The supplements are flat amounts added to the meter. The one every airport passenger pays is the €4.60 airport supplement, charged whether the airport is where the trip begins or where it ends.
| Supplement | Amount | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Airport | €4.60 | Trips to or from the airport |
| Moll Adossat cruise dock | €4.60 | Metered trips to or from the cruise dock |
| Fira Barcelona Gran Via, L'Hospitalet | €3.30 | Trips that start at the trade fair |
| Estació de Sants | €2.55 | Trips that start at the station |
| Five to eight passengers | €4.60 | Trips in a larger vehicle |
Fixed prices booked by app: tariff T-3
Besides the cruise fare, the meter has one exception. Under tariff T-3, taxi apps validated under Decree 314/2016 can sell a fixed price agreed before the trip, from a minimum of €8.00; while the taxi runs on T-3 its meter reads 0. A taxi ordered by phone or through an app also starts from €8.00. A cab taken from the airport rank runs on the meter, with the €21 minimum.
Fixed €46 to the cruise terminals at Moll Adossat
Between the airport and the Moll Adossat cruise terminals the taxi has a fixed price of €46, tariff T-4, in either direction and with every supplement included. The drive takes about 20 to 30 minutes. The fixed price belongs to Moll Adossat alone: other parts of the port, such as the ferry terminals at the World Trade Center, are not covered by it.
Without a taxi, the way to the ships is the Aerobús to the city centre and then the port's shuttle bus; no public service goes from the airport to the ship door. The other options are on the transport page.
Taxi fares and journey times by destination
Except for the €21 minimum and the €46 cruise fare, each amount here is an estimate from the AMB tariff, not a fixed fare, based on typical distances; AMB's fare calculator gives a quote for your exact address. Into the city the drive takes about 20 to 35 minutes depending on traffic, .
| Destination | Drive | Fare |
|---|---|---|
| Plaça Catalunya (city centre) | 20–30 min | about €30–39 |
| Sagrada Família | 20–30 min | about €33–42 |
| Barcelona Sants station | 15–25 min | about €28–36 |
| Barri Gòtic and La Rambla | 20–30 min | about €30–40 |
| Moll Adossat cruise terminals | 20–30 min | €46 fixed (tariff T-4) |
| Fira Gran Via, L'Hospitalet | 10–15 min | about €21–28, close to the minimum |
| Castelldefels | 15–20 min | about €25–35 |
| Badalona | 30–40 min | about €45–60 |
| Sitges | 25–35 min | about €55–75, partly on the intercity fare |
| Sant Cugat del Vallès | 30–40 min | about €55–70, intercity fare |
| Sabadell | 35–45 min | about €60–80, intercity fare |
| Terrassa | 40–50 min | about €70–90, intercity fare |
Going further: Sitges, Sant Cugat, Sabadell and Terrassa
The AMB tariff covers the metropolitan area. When a trip leaves it, part or all of the fare switches to the intercity rates set by the Generalitat de Catalunya, which is why the estimates for Sitges, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Sabadell and Terrassa are wider than those for the city. Get a quote from AMB's calculator before you go, and agree the route with the driver.
If you choose a route with a toll, you pay that toll and, under the AMB rules, the toll for the driver's return as well. On the way to Sitges, the southern C-32 through the Garraf tunnels is still a toll road.
Night, Saturday and holiday fares
From 20:00 to 08:00 on weekdays, and all day on Saturdays and public holidays, the meter runs on T-2 at €1.66 per km instead of €1.35. The flag-fall, the €4.60 airport supplement and the €21 minimum stay the same at any hour.
Only three nights a year add a surcharge on top: from 20:00 to 08:00 on 23 to 24 June, 24 to 25 December and 31 December to 1 January, the holiday-eve supplement of €4.60 applies.
Once the Metro has closed, the taxi is the door-to-door way into Barcelona. The cheaper choices at that hour, the 24-hour Aerobús and the night buses, are on the bus page.
Luggage, groups of five to eight, child seats and pets
For three or four people with suitcases, a shared taxi costs roughly what several Aerobús tickets would and takes you to the door. For five to eight passengers there are larger taxis, with a €4.60 supplement; book one ahead through a radio-taxi company or a taxi app.
Child seats and pets are left to the driver or the taxi company. If you need a child seat or are travelling with an animal, arrange it when you book.
Wheelchair-accessible taxis and help to the rank
The AMB runs an adapted taxi service, the eurotaxi, for wheelchair users. Book one in advance through the operators on the AMB's adapted-taxi list, and give them your flight number and terminal.
For the stretch from the aircraft to the taxi, Aena's Barrier Free assistance is free: staff meet you on board, help with your bags at reclaim and take you to the meeting point you ask for. Request it at least 48 hours before the flight, through your airline or with Aena.
Paying, receipts, complaints and things left in the cab
Card payment is widely accepted but not guaranteed in every cab, so tell the driver before the journey starts if you want to use one. You can also pay in cash.
Under the AMB rules the driver must give you a receipt when you ask for it. It carries the taxi's licence number, which you need for a complaint to the AMB and IMET or to track down something left on the back seat.
Items found in Barcelona taxis go to the city's lost property office, the Oficina de Troballes at Carrer de la Ciutat 2, which keeps them for a limited time. Collection is by appointment, booked through the city's online office or the free 010 line. It can be quicker to contact the taxi company or radio dispatcher of that cab first, quoting the licence number. Something lost inside the terminal goes to Aena's lost property office on Floor 1 of T1 instead.
Uber, Cabify and Bolt: where ride-hailing cars pick up
Ride-hailing cars, licensed in Spain as VTC (vehicles with driver), work at the airport with two differences from a taxi: you have to book in the app, and the car waits in a signed VTC area away from the taxi rank: follow the "VTC" signs, not the taxi signs. The meeting point differs from app to app and can move, so follow the meeting point in the app.
| App | At T1 | At T2 |
|---|---|---|
| Cabify | Go up to departures on Floor 3 and out to the outdoor waiting area | Leave T2A by the front doors and cross to the area by the car park signed "VTC" |
| Bolt | No fixed point: the app gives it | No fixed point: the app gives it |
| Uber | The app gives the point | The app gives the point |
In Barcelona Uber runs mainly its licensed VTC service, of the Uber Black type, rather than standard UberX; the app lists what is on offer that day. App prices move with demand and can rise at busy times, while the taxi fare is fixed by the AMB tariff, so compare the app's quote with the taxi estimate for your destination. The taxi suits leaving straight away, groups and the cruise port; an app suits comparing a price before you travel.
- Open the app before you land and request the car once you are through reclaim and customs.
- Before you get in, match the make, colour, number plate and driver with the app.
- If you leave something in the car, report it through the app's lost item option.
Taking a taxi to the airport: T1 or T2?
On the way to the airport the meter runs in the usual way and the €4.60 airport supplement applies in this direction too, as do the pick-up supplements at Sants and the Fira Gran Via.
Tell the driver your terminal before you set off. T1 and T2 are about 4 km apart by road, with no walkway between them, and T2 is one terminal in three sections, T2A, T2B and T2C; T2A is not used for departures. T1 handles Vueling, Iberia, LEVEL and most long-haul and full-service airlines, T2B mainly Ryanair and Transavia, and T2C mainly easyJet. Check your boarding pass: Aena assigns airlines to terminals, and this changes.
Dropped at the wrong terminal? Aena's free shuttle links T1 and T2 24 hours a day; allow 15 to 20 minutes door to door. Stops and frequencies are on the transport page.
